#300: Ravello (pg 186)

The Crypt

The Avenue of Immensity

At the end of the Avenue of Immensity, you arrive at the Statue of Ceres.

And then you turn the corner to see this!  The Terrace of Infinity.

The Terrace of Infinity.  One of the most amazingly beautiful sights your eyes will ever behold!

The pamphlet they give you when you arrive here states:
"Casting your eyes down as far as the mountains of Client and the tip of Licosa, over the sparkling sea, our the varied and multi-colored Coast of Amalfi with its lemon groves the little houses clinging to the hills, dazed by the scent of fruit and furze, the passing of time does not matter to us, bewitched by such beauty, such Divine generosity."  I couldn't agree more.

Mercury's Seat
"Lost to the world of which I desire no part, I sit alone and speak to my heart, satisfied with my little corner of the world, content to feel no more sadness for death."

Verdict:  Along the Amalfi Coast, it's hard to choose a "best part" or "most beautiful" or even "favorite" because each little town is unique, gorgeous, filled with character and history and just when you think it can't get any better, you visit the next town and it seemingly does.  Having said all that, if I HAD to pick a favorite part of Amalfi Coast, this would definitely be at the top of my list.  I'm not sure Amalfi Coast has one crowning jewel but this town is definitely in the crown!  So, I give a resounding "YES" to seeing Ravello at least once in your life.  And when you go, make sure to visit the Gardens of Villa Cimbrone.  It consists of a main building and six hectares of historic parkland and is considered one of the most important examples of the landscape, botany and culture of England created in the Mediterranean area between the end fat nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth centuries.
