#329: Bussaco Forest (pg 252; 2nd ed pg 239)

This 200+ acre property was cared for by monks for centuries as exotic trees were imported from all over the world by the Portuguese empire.  In the 1830's, King Carlos I commissioned a summer palace to be built in its midst.  And you can now live like a King yourself as this royal palace has now been transformed into a beautiful hotel.

There are trails and walking paths everywhere.

And new discoveries every step of the way - small chapels, ponds, religious relics, ducks, fountains, gardens, etc.

And the perfect location for a killer sunset!

VERDICT:  Yes!!! Sometimes things meet your expectations and sometimes they don't.  But this one exceeded them!  I expected something reminiscent of a big forest.  I didn't expect a labyrinth of beauty and adventure and natural splendor in every direction.  And also,  the grounds are open to the public for the price of 6 euros/car to park.  Best 6 euros I ever spent!
Tip:  This can easily be done as a day trip from Porto.  It is only about an hour or so away (~70 miles).
