#330: Museum Calouste Gulbenkian (pg 253; 2nd Ed labeled as Great Museums of Three Collectors, pg 241)

Sept. 30, 2023

Calouste Gulbenkian was a wealthy (very wealthy) Armenian who left his vast Art Collection to Portugal, when he died in 1955.

There are more than 6000 pieces on display in this museum including this Degas self portrait from 1863.

And Rembrandt's Old Man with a Stick from 1645.

After a long flight, we're starting the trip off with some culture!

VERDICT:  No, this isn't something you need to do before you die.  It's impressive no doubt, but unless you're an Art enthusiast, it's not a must do.  But if you have more than 1-2 days in Lisbon and/or you have rainy/cold weather day, then this is a great way to while away a couple hours and immerse yourself in one of the greatest private art collections around.
