#29: Vasamuseet (pg 341; listed as Vasa Museum in 2nd Ed, pg 370)

You may look at this picture and wonder what in the world it is. Well, it's a ship. A really, really old and amazingly well-preserved ship! The Vasa, the Royal Swedish Navy's newest and most magnificent sailing vessel, set sail on it's maiden voyage in August 1628. It sailed 1300 meters before it capsized and sank to the bottom of the ocean, where it remained until 1956 when it was discovered and painstakingly resored. It now resides in the Vasa Museum and is really quite amazing to see up close and personal. Admittedly, it's hard to see the ship in the background (I don't think they allowed flash), but here I am right in front of it. You can get up very close to it and walk all around. She wasn't completed until 1990 and is the oldest, fully preserved ship in the entire world.

Verdict: Okay, so this is another where I don't think I would travel to Stockholm solely to see the Vasa. But, if you go to Stockholm (which you should - it's beautiful), then absolutely see this while you are there!
